The Hot Wheels Display: 4 down, 20 to go...

By // No comments:

Slow process I know, but thanks to your suggestions, I did just DLM four new selections for the wall display.  20 to go...

What do you think of my first four?

The third color of the Hot Wheels multipack exclusive Datsun 620 has hit Walmart...

By // No comments:

Just a heads up to get your hunting cap on.  Time to hunt a new Datsun 620.

Lamley Reader Bob Parslow let us know that he found the black recolor of the 620 at a Walmart in California.  I am sure it will hit at Targets, Walgreens, TRU, and any other store that stocks 9-packs eventually, but be on the lookout.

Bob was nice enough to supply pics as well, and this may be the best color yet.  If the past is any indicator, this is the final color for the model.  We will see...

(Thanks Bob.)

Take a gander at the Hot Wheels display at Comic Con...

Last weekend the Matchbox Team was among 150 to 200 Matchbox collectors, most of whom know each other and share a specific passion for the orange brand.  This weekend, another Mattel Team is encountering something COMPLETELY different.

The Hot Wheels team is in San Diego for the greatest crowd-phobia event there is - Comic Con.

And among the sea of cosplay dorks and "who is Rey's father" experts, the Hot Wheels Team is showing off it latest and greatest.

We were able to get some photos of what is there, and while some lines are a little too "entertainment" related for my taste, there is a ton to get excited about.  Sometimes it is a full line, other times a specific model, and even others it is just the artwork.  And speaking of artwork, what cool artwork there is!

Some of this you have seen, but a lot you haven't.

I don't know how to organize all this, so I am just going to post all the photos that came my way.

So put on the costume of your favorite cartoon character, and scroll through the photos.  It will be almost like you are in San Diego yourself!  Nerd.

Enjoy...

Give me 24 Hot Wheels that NEED to be in this display...

By // No comments:

A few weeks ago I reorganized my loose Hot Wheels collection.  That meant gathering all the loose Hot Wheels I wanted to keep and organizing them in my Jammer cases alphabetically by carmaker.

So that also meant the three rows of Hot Wheels I have to display in my Carney displays were emptied as well.  Yes, three rows out of three displays is a little pathetic, but when my vintage Matchbox display arrives, Hot Wheels will get its own display.  For now, it gets three rows.

But what to put in it?  I started with three.  My favorite Chevy Panel, the RLC Thunder Roller, and the Car Culture Trucks Subaru Brat have all taken their slots.  But I need 24 more.

So give me some ideas.

Keep in mind I have no redlines, and really nothing before 2006/2007.  Not to mention I am a huge fan of the more recent output from Hot Wheels.  So models I am considering are those that were in there before, like the Candy Striper Gasser, Toy Fair Porsche, and others.  But there are a lot of other cool models out there that deserve a shot.

Any suggestions?

The Hot Wheels Garage Premium line is now out at Walmart...

Instagram member @mistapontiac_cohwc caused quite a stir yesterday with this post:

What's this?  The next assortment for Walmart bins?  But Ford Performance was just released!

Well, it is indeed a Walmart exclusive, but it is in the Hot Wheels Premium line, which is a bit different.  This is called Hot Wheels Garage, and is the follow-up to the Stars & Stripes assortment from a couple of months ago.

This set was found at a Colorado Walmart - sans the Mustang - and should be appearing at your local store too.  I don't know if this is a US exclusive, so we will have to see.

It is nice to see a purely muscle set.  I can see myself picking up a few.  So head out there and find them, and save me a Chevelle Wagon...

It's the Subaru Brat's world. The other Hot Wheels Car Culture Trucks are just living in it...

By // No comments:

You #lamleyhype critics, I'm gonna give you some fodder today.

Let's just start with it.  The Subaru BRAT from the Hot Wheels Trucks Assortment is the best Car Culture model so far, and that includes Japan Historics.

Yikes!  That's quite a statement, and Lamley is at his hyping best again!

I guess I am.  The Japan Historics as a set is a gem.  Homages to historic racing liveries, a creative police car, and a fantastic new model in the RX-3.  A VERY popular new wheel too.  It really can't be beat.  The models on their own are great, with the Toyota 2000GT probably my favorite.

The Trucks Series is up there as well, but not at the same level as the Historics.  But there isn't a weal model in the bunch.  AND, throw all 15 Car Culture models released so far into a Best-to-Worst list, and guess which, to me, comes out on top?   Well, let's do the list, shall we?

(Cringing as I write this.  Darts preparing to come...)

  1. Subaru BRAT
  2. Toyota 2000GT
  3. Nissan Skyline H/T 2000GT-X
  4. BMW E30 M3
  5. Mazda RX-3
  6. Porsche 993 GT2
  7. Ford F-250
  8. Chevy Silverado
  9. Nissan Skyline H/T 2000GT-R
  10. Ford Ranchero
  11. Datsun Bluebird 510 Wagon
  12. Datsun 620
  13. Fiat 500
  14. VW Golf MK7
  15. Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Yeah, explaining that list is a post for another time.  But some are at the bottom because I am just not fond of the liveries.  All great castings though.  The fact is the series has been stellar so far, and there isn't one model I actually dislike.  Just some I like more than others.

And that speaks to how much I like the Brat.  I have been so fond of that casting since it was released.  Such a great choice for a Hot Wheels (while doing a stock Brat would be perfect for Matchbox), and the casting is executed perfectly.  Seats in the back, seats in the back!

I just haven't been really into the decos.  They are nice, but nothing stands out.  Until this simple zamac version comes out.  It's essentially a black-and-white Brat, with more stock cues deco-wise.  And while I would have been singing its praises if it had this deco over a white or gray base, zamac takes it to the next level.  The model is just so damn sharp.  And I haven't even gone into the perfect choice for wheels.  Oh, and tail lights, which seem to be having a hard time showing up on other Car Culture models.

Yes, the criticism that everything is Lamley's favorite is legitimate - I just get too excited about models sometime - but count the Brat as one.  It always will be.  As long as I have display space for Hot Wheels, the Car Culture Brat will be there.

The rest of the Trucks are no slouches either.  I mentioned in my video that this is the first Silverado going in the collection, and the more I look at it with those wheels and raked stance, I am all in.  Best Ranchero so far as well, great vintage Ford, and I won't turn away a 620.

Trucks is rad.
