It's the Subaru Brat's world. The other Hot Wheels Car Culture Trucks are just living in it...

By // No comments:

You #lamleyhype critics, I'm gonna give you some fodder today.

Let's just start with it.  The Subaru BRAT from the Hot Wheels Trucks Assortment is the best Car Culture model so far, and that includes Japan Historics.

Yikes!  That's quite a statement, and Lamley is at his hyping best again!

I guess I am.  The Japan Historics as a set is a gem.  Homages to historic racing liveries, a creative police car, and a fantastic new model in the RX-3.  A VERY popular new wheel too.  It really can't be beat.  The models on their own are great, with the Toyota 2000GT probably my favorite.

The Trucks Series is up there as well, but not at the same level as the Historics.  But there isn't a weal model in the bunch.  AND, throw all 15 Car Culture models released so far into a Best-to-Worst list, and guess which, to me, comes out on top?   Well, let's do the list, shall we?

(Cringing as I write this.  Darts preparing to come...)

  1. Subaru BRAT
  2. Toyota 2000GT
  3. Nissan Skyline H/T 2000GT-X
  4. BMW E30 M3
  5. Mazda RX-3
  6. Porsche 993 GT2
  7. Ford F-250
  8. Chevy Silverado
  9. Nissan Skyline H/T 2000GT-R
  10. Ford Ranchero
  11. Datsun Bluebird 510 Wagon
  12. Datsun 620
  13. Fiat 500
  14. VW Golf MK7
  15. Porsche 911 GT3 RS
Yeah, explaining that list is a post for another time.  But some are at the bottom because I am just not fond of the liveries.  All great castings though.  The fact is the series has been stellar so far, and there isn't one model I actually dislike.  Just some I like more than others.

And that speaks to how much I like the Brat.  I have been so fond of that casting since it was released.  Such a great choice for a Hot Wheels (while doing a stock Brat would be perfect for Matchbox), and the casting is executed perfectly.  Seats in the back, seats in the back!

I just haven't been really into the decos.  They are nice, but nothing stands out.  Until this simple zamac version comes out.  It's essentially a black-and-white Brat, with more stock cues deco-wise.  And while I would have been singing its praises if it had this deco over a white or gray base, zamac takes it to the next level.  The model is just so damn sharp.  And I haven't even gone into the perfect choice for wheels.  Oh, and tail lights, which seem to be having a hard time showing up on other Car Culture models.

Yes, the criticism that everything is Lamley's favorite is legitimate - I just get too excited about models sometime - but count the Brat as one.  It always will be.  As long as I have display space for Hot Wheels, the Car Culture Brat will be there.

The rest of the Trucks are no slouches either.  I mentioned in my video that this is the first Silverado going in the collection, and the more I look at it with those wheels and raked stance, I am all in.  Best Ranchero so far as well, great vintage Ford, and I won't turn away a 620.

Trucks is rad.

Hot Wheels Ford Performance, Euro Style have hit at US Walmarts...

Yes, the standard 2016 eye-roll from our Canadian and Australian-based collectors.

But those of you here in the US, hit your local Walmart for some new Hot Wheels goodies.  Ford Performance and Car Culture Euro Style have finally hit.

Hunter extraordinaire and Lamley confidant @hw_jay came across Ford Performance yesterday (pictured above), and another good friend Ace came across Euro Style today:

I have not seen Ford Performance yet, but it is a Mustang set, and there appears to be some fantastic models included.  Euro Style I have reviewed, and I hope no one thought I sold it short.  It doesn't live up to the level of Japanese Historics or the upcoming Trucks in Car Culture, but on its own it is fantastic.  The E30 Police and Porsche 993 are must haves for me, and I am sure there are a couple on your list too.  Now you can hit the store and buy what your want.

More stuff is surely to come.  Always let us know what you find...

Lamley Preview: Hot Wheels 2016 Car Culture Trucks Assortment...

By // No comments:

I think we can all say Hot Wheels Car Culture has been a success so far.  Euro Style hasn't equaled the insanity that is the Japan Historics, but based on the collector world right now there is nothing that will.

It seems the reaction to Euro Style has been somewhat lukewarm.  Too bad, because it is a very nice set, it just suffers from following the Japan Historics.  Release it first and collectors are going gaga.  So that will be the burden of Car Culture.  Expectations for each assortment will be exceptionally high, and hopefully the mix of castings plus deco plus wheels will meet those high levels through 2016 and into 2017.

Enter assortment #3.  For Batch C Hot Wheels moves away from an era or a geographical area and goes for a type of vehicle.  The theme is Trucks.  That's it.  Just Trucks.  And that is how it should be.  No glitz, just hard-working pickups.  And my guess is this will be a very popular set.

Our coverage of the new Trucks assortment starts today with a video from the Lamley YouTube Channel, and will finish later this week with a full photo showcase here on the blog.  This assortment deserves two parts.  There is something for everyone, and one particular model may be the king of Car Culture so far.

Enjoy:

The Euros have landed: Hot Wheels Euro Style is now available at Wheel Collectors & A&J Toys...

By // No comments:

There is a Brexit joke in here somewhere, but I am too tired.  So we will focus on the facts.

Hot Wheels Car Culture Euro Style is here!  Lamley Partners Wheel Collectors and A&J Toys both got shipments today, and they can be found here, whether you want singles or cases:

Hot Wheels Euro Style singles and sets at Wheel Collectors

Hot Wheels Euro Style cases at A&J Toys

This set won't carry the luster of the Japan Historics, but it is nice nonetheless.  To me the highlights are the BMW Police, Porsche 993, and surprisingly the Fiat.  The other Porsche and the new model of the group, the Golf, leave a little to be desired with their lack of headlights.  It might speak to the beauty of the Japan Historics that the set following them, as good as it looks, seems a little drab in comparison.  On its own, though, it is a fantastic set.

And now it is out in the US.  Our friends in Canada and elsewhere might react to this with a collective yawn, but at least the US finally has them...
