First Look: Hot Wheels Simpsons Family Car...

By // No comments:

So what's next?

We have the Homer, and now the Family Sedan, and there has to be more coming.  First thought is obviously the Canyonero, which would be a perfect choice for Simpsons fans, as would Mr. Plow.  (It's name again, is Mr. Plow.)  But being a wagon aficionado, I hope it is Marge's people mover.

Now I start with that, because I have said numerous times before, I am not really into character cars.  I like the real stuff, and while I can't argue at all the appeal of The Homer, and it is understandably a hit among the masses, it just isn't my cup of tea.  But this family sedan?  I love it.  I really do.

I didn't think I would.  When Wheel Collectors got the batch, the Simpsons Sedan was more a curiosity than anything I was interested in.  The BTTF Hover car, for example, got its feature on the blog and was then thrown into the donation pile.  Not this one.

It's cute.  It's simple.  It may be the most everyday-street-car-oriented casting Hot Wheels has done in awhile.  Just a simple sedan you grew up with.  Kind of funny that a cartoon car might be the most realistic family sedan Hot Wheels has done in awhile.  What was the last one?  The Ford Fusion?

Here is some of the charm.  The pink color of course, but the front and rear tampos look great.  The detail in the interior is really nice too.  The seats actually look comfortable.

I didn't expect to like this one, but I do.  It is bound to be popular, so I don't think me liking it changes anything.  But just know I'm a fan.

And that is why I want to see Marge's Wagon.  If it has the small town classic charm of the sedan, it will be a must-have.

First Look: Hot Wheels '76 Greenwood Corvette Toys R Us Mail-in Exclusive...

By // No comments:

Ok, I am feeling a little overwhelmed.  Here is what is on the docket for the blog:
  • First Look: Hot Wheels Simpsons Family Car
  • First Look: Matchbox BMW M5 Police
  • First Look: Matchbox Ford Cargo
  • First Look: Matchbox Dodge A100
  • First Look: Matchbox Everett Marshall Charities Exclusives
  • A look at all the upcoming 2015 and 2016 Matchbox models
  • A look at all the preproduction models donated by Mattel to the Gathering Auction
  • An interesting history on the donated prepro that I won at auction
  • Larry Scaduto's final Matchbox Ambassador Report and Gathering roundup
That is a lot.  And I leave for vacation today.  Yikes.

But I will chug along and get all of this out to you.  There is too much interesting stuff to keep you waiting, especially those upcoming Matchbox model pics.

Looking at what I need to get to, I see a lot of orange, and that is to be expected, considering I just returned from the Gathering.  But blue deserves a bit of attention, and they have provided a beauty that is definitely worthy of a full post.

That model is the latest mail-in promo from Hot Wheels, the Toys R Us exclusive '76 Greenwood Corvette.  I don't pursue all the Hot Wheels mail-ins, but when I do, it is because it looks like the Greenwood.

The Greenwood is a special model, and happily Mattel knows it.  I could argue that amid a sea of Skylines, Porsches, and that infamous Datsun Wagon, Jun Imai's true design gem is the Greenwood.  Who knows if it was Jun or another designer who chose the Greenwood for the HW Racing line a few years ago, but whoever did made an inspired choice.  It is a loud, over-the-top racing model, with enormous - ENORMOUS! - flared wheel wells, a huge nose, and something resembling headlights.  The result is an unforgettable Hot Wheels Corvette, that no one can complain about because it is based on the real model.

And this summer it became extra special.  John Greenwood, the legendary racer behind the car, passed away earlier this month.  We certainly pass our condolences onto his family and friends, and can think of no better way to remember him by showing the fantastic casting based on one of his most iconic cars.

If you were to only have one Greenwood Vette in the collection, it would still be the Hot Wheels Racing version, which sports the actual racing livery.  But it makes more sense to have all, and considering the premium treatment this model continues to get, that can be hard.  You need the Racing, two basics, a Super TH, the 2015 Nationals Finale Car, and now this mail-in.  Hard to do, but totally worth it.  All are handsome models.

This one is no exception.  The red and grey of this year's exclusive suits it very well.  We will let the photos do the talking...

First Look: 2015 Hot Wheels Toyota Supra Super Treasure Hunt, Basic, and a variation I finally DLM'd...

Let's get one more Hot Wheels post in before Lamley goes all-Matchbox for the weekend...

News has been prevalent, and a week of meetings and traveling means I have been a little short on the Lamley features, so it is nice to put a car in the studio and give it some time.  And wow, how good do these two look?

I have moved away from most Super TH First Looks, because by the time they make it here legitimately, the photos have leaked, and the risk-taking sellers overseas and here in the US have shown all their pics.

But this is a Supra (I like Supras), and it is pretty cool.  And its basic counterpart is pretty sweet as well.  So, this isn't the first time you have seen this one, but hopefully it is one of the best ways for a good gander.

This is a perfect Super TH.  There are definitely other decos I like better on the Supra, but this one just pops as a Super, especially with the mismatches colors on the rims.  Supers should be fun, and this one definitely is.

And yes it is red.  We will dedicate another post to that fact another time.  Even more relevant is how close the drift livery of the Supra is close to the AE86 Super from earlier this year.  Makes for a great duo, DLM'd of course.

At the end, I decided to show all the Supras, including the first pics of the chrome-lipped MC5 variation on the Falken Tire version.  I found one with a mangled card, so figured having a loose version wouldn't hurt.  We have talked about this variation before.  Only found at Walgreens, so it might be worth checking them periodically.

Alright, the diecast portion of my brain is turning from blue to orange, as I get closer to Albuquerque and the Matchbox Gathering this weekend.  Gotta let that happen.

So enjoy the pics, while I make my through the New Mexico desert.
